Tour group eating lunch
We always looked forward to these great three-course midday meals that Manuel (near left in the photo) arranged for us in excellent regional restaurants. In Spain, lunch (almuerzo) is the main meal of the day and is usually taken at about 2-3 in the afternoon. Here we are eating a stick-to-your-ribs soup served often in the Madrid area. Later the meat course was roast lamb, also a staple in the Spanish diet.

The diners: (Clockwise from Manuel) Manuel (Madrid, our leader), Kevin (Australia), Justine (United States), ? (Madrid), ? (Madrid), Noriko (Japan), ? (Madrid), Javier (Madrid), Zac (United States), and J. C. (United States), --not in picture: Paul (United States, photographer) and Garth (United States, J. C.'s mate)
